Why I'm running for Ward 13

On May 1, 2026, I officially registered as a candidate for Toronto City Council in Ward 13 – Toronto Centre. A letter to friends, neighbours, and supporters.

Good morning friends, neighbours, and supporters,

On May 1st, 2026, I officially registered as a candidate for Toronto City Council in Ward 13 – Toronto Centre.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this moment possible, especially the more than 200 supporters who signed my nomination forms and encouraged me to take this important step.

This is not just a campaign. It is a continuation of the work we have been building together in our neighbourhoods, in our communities, and in our lives.

I came to this city as a newcomer. I grew up in this city as a young person navigating barriers. And I have spent my life working alongside residents to build something better together.

Mother's Day with neighbours in Toronto Centre

Celebrating Mother's Day with neighbours across Ward 13 — May 10, 2026.

I am running because I believe our communities deserve respect.

Respect means affordable housing that people can actually afford, based on income, not the market.

Respect means investing in communities through Social Development Plans, because real safety comes from opportunity, care, and support, not just enforcement.

Respect means protecting and expanding access to community space, because people need places to gather, organize, celebrate, learn, heal, and belong.

Respect means working with all levels of government to create good jobs, support youth employment year-round, and address food insecurity so no one is left behind and no one goes hungry in our city.

In Regent Park, through the Social Development Plan, we saw what happens when communities are trusted, resourced, and supported. We did not just talk about safety — we built it. We did not just talk about opportunity — we created it. And we saw real results: stronger communities, safer streets, and lives transformed.

But we also know what happens when governments fail to act. Families are pushed out of their homes. Young people struggle to find meaningful opportunities. Communities lose access to the spaces that bring them together.

That is not the city we believe in.

This campaign is about building a Toronto rooted in dignity, opportunity, and care for one another. It is about bringing people together across backgrounds, cultures, languages, and experiences to build a stronger, more inclusive city.

I need your help to spread the message that Ward 13 deserves leadership rooted in community, courage, and respect.
